We at Bloglisted are sad to announce that Nick Lachey and JessicaSimpson have officially split up. Unlike the rumors that have come out in recent months, this story has been actually been confirmed by both Nick andJessica's publicists. Together they issued this joint statement:
"This is the mutual decision of two people with an enormous amount of respect and admiration for each other. We hope that you respect our privacy during this difficult time."
Yeah, I know, shocker. There's nothing really to say. I don't know. The emotional energy that I put on reserve for giving a shit about celebrity gossip was pretty much used up with the Brad and Jen breakup. I don't have enough left to really care. I will say, however, that I think it is pretty funny one of the tabloid cover stories this week reported that Jessica was pregnant and the most current issue of OK! quotes Jessica as saying, "Don't believe the rumors."

I tried not to let this news ruin my Thanksgiving. It is true, however, that my well of concern for celebrity relationships is nearly dry since Brad and Jen. But this one still hurts a little. I just really wanted to believe that this ditzy blonde tart and cheezy pre-teen pinup would be the pair to beat the odds.
Here's the thing I find funny. I read somewhere recently that Jessica had become phone buddies with Jennnifer Anniston, that Jen was giving her relationship advice, etc. But what's clear now is that Jen was just helping Jessica figure out what their joint-issued statement should say -- b/c I'm pretty sure this is close to verbatim what Brad and Jen said. I distinctly remember the part about "mutual respect", and the part about "respecting our privacy through this hard time."
Ah well, I guess there's nothing to do now but wait until one of them "breaks their silence" in a revealing interview. sigh.
